Haru, despite appearances, was a demon. When she separated from her friends, she went back to the forest, where she lived with her red cat named Azuki. She didn't tell the children she was a demon. But eventually, they found out and got revenge on her. They stole Azuki from her and hid her in a shed on the edge of town. Haru cried when she couldn't find her, then got angry. She grew long, sharp claws and wanted nothing more than to get revenge on them. But she didn't. Because she wouldn't gain anything from it.

He was born from a sprouted corpse from which he grew like a clinging flower, then hung on a tree until a demon came and offered him a bargain, his soul for a strong and vigorous body. Guts, for that is his name, went through so many trials and troubles that no devil would answer his calls. He saw his friends and loved ones brutalized or killed, lost an arm and an eye, ended his days to become a flower again. But he became ashes.

In '93 we had one TV, one TV channel and one cartoon with a racing driver. Old Diamond's sudden death made our folks swear on the deceased's head that they would order a colored TV. In those days there was no eMAG, you had to sign up to the enterprise on endless lists filled with petty wishes. To make my wait easier, two of my kindergarten classmates were telling me in great detail about the adventures of the brave pilot, Jacques Hawk of the Grand Prix.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In December 2023, the group has 12,210 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
