I was stepping barefoot on the bosom of the darkness. We were both breathing heavily. A sea of mist was rising from his mouth, and it was suffocating me, covering my hips in dew. I took out my eyes and threw them in his eyes. Then I saw myself. A light in a lamp who did not allow itself to shine. I took my eyes back and threw them across the skies, across the azure waters and crested hills, bathed in the sun. There he was, just a tower composed of clay. His soul was climbed down. I ascend along with him, barefoot, with my hips covered in dew. At the end of the stairs his eyes are shining bright.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2021, the group has 6.650 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
