How had they known to drop by at the most inopportune of moments, when I had fallen into a drunken stupor and was dreaming about laying on the beach, right on top of the sands, under the shade of a coconut tree with my gaze lazily roaming through the leaves and towards the endless patch of sky.
Not even Joker sensed them, even though the claim that Labradors have special abilities.
The doorbell and subsequent breaking in overlapped with the moment in my dream where the champagne cap had hit a coconut, and I didn't know whether I should duck away from the coconut or the mosquito that kept on buzzing.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2021, the group has 3.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
