She could barely move in that tweaked dress. The groom looked like a blade of grass next to a white, melon-like bride. Before the priest, she gently elbowed him: go on, father, give us the short one, we both say yes, bring the rings, hurry up, my water broke, bring the towels, call for the midwife, put the mattress under her, where's the basin, I have warm water in a jug in the trunk, or even three, we even have the godparents, breathe darling like it's Lamaze and say yes already, the kids start croaking soon are you're not yet married.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2021, the group has 4.500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
