People are under the illusion they have the power to change their destiny as they please. They also believe their hard work, effort and qualities pave their way to the life they think they can choose. They do not know that in a split second they are planted in one particular place out of the million places and moments they can be in. I am the one who pushed Titanic into the iceberg, the one who spit fire on Cernobyl. I broke down cities in the dead of the night. I am one of the Angels of Death. I chose the third shift. If they may die, at least they will do so in their sleep.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2021, the group has 4.300 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
