The hominy water was boiling, and she was looking lost out the window facing the garden. What was she thinking when she found her in the woods? She should have left her lying there, clinging on the needle leaf until she decayed. She had listened mindlessly the rumour about the parachutist who fell in the mountains, in '43, vanished without a trace. Now she was wondering if it was not a shame about that piece of cloth hidden in the attic, as it is lying stepped on by the mice. After dinner, she will take it from the attic and tailor clothes. And she will also give a piece of cloth to the neighbour, as God gave her 7 children as well.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2021, the group has 6.650 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
