You could use a beer but you're too lazy. It's extremely hot outside, you're sweating, the sweat-drops fall and vanish into the burning beach under the white sheet. The sea is nowhere to be seen. This is not because of the fog, but because a fly rested on your nose. If only the others stopped yelling! You could block yourself from the others and start meditating, but in this situation you cannot hear your own thoughts either. What an annoying fly, it sits here as if it's glued to my nose, I would hit it with the newspaper, if only you hadn't missed it and it wouldn't be so hot. You'd like a beer but you are too high and the elevator is out of use. You'd better forget about it.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
