I laugh. At myself, at others, especially at politicians, at blunders, at hypocrites, at those I can't name because I would violate community standards - but you guess them, they have atrophied brains. I cried for many years. I had lost half of myself, I felt like there could be nothing but tears and loneliness. Then I realized that I can't bring people back. One day I rediscovered my laughter and since then I feel good, warm and not in pain. If I keep it this way, one day I'll laugh at the lady with the scythe.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
