I'm a country boy. I don't know much, but I have a friend who has a lot of books, two universities, and he used to write beautiful poems to his Marta. It's just that now he started beating her up. My colleague Mircea used to sing to his wife, but it's a shame he cheats on her. Lică is a painter, a great artist, he's dedicated many works to my sister-in-law, but he doesn't give her money, because he says she's a big spender. I have nothing but the cow and the mud house. I have nothing to give her, like others. I milk the cow in the morning, so she can sleep, and I take care of the garden, so we have something to eat. And I kiss her. Night after night.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
