When we finished college, me and my friend decided to go to all the casting agencies in Bucharest, to sign up. So that the industry may find out that we are professionals. All said and done. An agency with an obscure name. A lady wearing too much make-up for this time of the day opens up. Behind her, a poster featuring the porn industry awards. My nearsighted friend starts explaining why we came. The lady smiles leniently and with a voice full of pity, says: We do not work with professional actors.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
