Ever since she left I refuse to get out of bed. I have no more hope, neither do I have tears. I lay underneath the blanket with my knees to my chest and I try to sleep as much as possible, to forget. I don't even know how many days have passed since I forgot about myself. Today I had to go out because I ran out of coffee. I started crying again when I got to the alley behind the block. A little girl came up to me and handed me two white bubbles. Eat them, it will make it feel better, she told me. And it made me feel better immediately. Now I am addicted to Tic-Tacs.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
