Mom, I don't want to eat. Not at all. I don't like any food. It makes me sick when you call me to dinner. I dream of taking a pill that would keep me satiate and grow up just with it. It should be very small, very round and elastic. I should be able to turn it into a ball when I want to play or into the coil I use to swim in the lake all summer. Into the padlock with which I want to lock your mouth when you scold me, into the hand that caresses you when I can't do it. Into the moon I sometimes want to fly to when you cry because there's no more bread.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
