Boy, what have happened to you to die at 43? We have learnt together for final exam and faculty, we wrote each other when we were in the army, we found girlfriends and wives together. You needed America, you wanted to reach to Australia. You made a son, your ex-girlfriend baptized it there. And the girl you gave me to baptize it here, in Romania. Do you know that your kinds are in high school now? How could I write you, how would you read to me? Heavenly emails I don't think exist. But I think you look down and see us.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
