The puppeteer was breathing heavily. He sat stretched out over the skies, leaning with his feet against the east. Two sunsets played between his toes and a short-sighted raven knitted big-eyed dreams. It had been a long day, about as long as the lifespan of a man. So that he would no longer be lonely, he rose to his feet, put his hand in the ground and dug out a country. He shook her out of politics, gave her the eyes of art, the nose of mountains, a mouth like the smell of rain, braided spring into her hair and sprinkled her with light-people. He hugged her to his chest. He began to beat her with the heart. The perfect doll.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2021, the group has 7.500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
