Say, mother, you won't go with the older ones at the wild boar. There's danger. Actually, dear Leti, I am going, to keep safe your maize. And I was lighting up a fire tall enough to reach the sky, the dogs were nosing around for the summer phantasms, the neighbors were shooting with carbide, the cicadas were dragging, demented, the violins through grass, and I was eating bacon grilled directly in the red-hot coals, with the grease running down on my fingers. Around 4 o'clock the fire was unlit, the dogs were sleeping, the hill was starting to come back to life: the big sow, with her piglets were running fast on the far away road in order to reach my grandma's maze field, avoiding my peaceful sleep as a baby.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In December 2021, the group has 7.750 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
