He planned to kill himself in broad daylight. He had hidden the gun behind the bookshelves and when the sun came out, he sobbed regretfully as he polished the windows. After two trips through the house, the thought that his blood would flow unchecked on the carpet on which they sang together in the evenings, it daunted him for a moment. He said a prayer, chipped with disbelief, and let his hopes fly out the open window. With tears glistening he kissed his beloved one last time, which rang briefly beneath his lips. At sunset, they found his violin beside his bruised shot heart.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
