We were lying on the wet grass. You were showing me the Perseids and I was fascinated. You told me us to make a wish. I've been thinking about what kind of wish you could make. You and me, veterans in that orphanage, forgotten by the world. Suddenly you jumped up happy and said: D, someday, I'm gonna be somebody, you hear me? I heard you. I was laughing out loud. I was looking at your tattered clothes and laughed louder and louder. Poor you, what delusional dreams. My wish was to catch the evening meal. I was hungry.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
