I just go for a walk, I repeated to myself every time the metallic heel of the red gala shoes, from New Year's Eve, penetrated my flesh violently. Every sound on the cobble stones released the remorse from the chains. I had left the little one on the neighbor's mat, that nice one, from the fourth floor. She will understand. She just went out for a walk, she'll say. The night when it rains, the light of the head lights coming at you and swallowing you, it anesthetizes you. And it envelops you warmly. This red flame stops right next to me. How much? Two hundred. Okay, get in.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
