Ever since the apple fell on my head, the earth has always drawn me. I'm temporary, I say, and bite the fruit. Sweet and juicy as the sin, I declare with my mouth full. He is looking at me intently and smiles meaningfully. Would you rather prefer floating? Not everyone can taste from this apple garden. Would it be a waste? But me? I ask with wide-eyed pleasure. You can see, although it is illusory. You're old fashioned, I see, and I wonder: should I eat the spine, or not. I can't. I can't plant apple orchards in me. One thought and then I start to sprout.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
