I knock on. I open the door. Nobody says contemptuously: wait. It is not written on the door: do not enter uninvited. Inside, her. Who sent me? Father. Her face changed. She turned from a doctor into a woman, then into a mother. She cried. In this room, she had seen the children of others growing up. The pain silenced her. I wanted to know who I was calling mother. She cried again. She was waiting for forgiveness, so she could hold me in her arms. How can you forgive me? I'm a doctor, mom, like you. Mother's love filled the room and child's heart, like a freshly dug fountain.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
