I tried telling him a hundred times. I would knock on the door, he would open. What else have you been up to? Here and there, like yesterday, like always. What about you? Nothing else either. Period. Period. And I would rush from one place to another, without rest, without peace, with all the words on the tip of my tongue. When the joints in my legs stiffened, when my fingers ceased to move, the door opened for the one hundred and first time, he handed me the glass of wine, the light from the fire was sublime, he entered - he smiled - pour inside all that you have for me, free yourself, I will leave, I don't love you.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
