Sometimes it was enough for him to know that she was there waiting for him to fill her with life. Other times his hatred for her knew no earthly bounds. With his eyes closed, he moved the tips of his fingers across her exposed body and his hunger overcame his entire being. He flared his nostrils and sniffed her story. He didn't love words, he sinfully grasped them and thrashed them about all over his mind, he forced their usage if necessary, until they gained their natural meaning. The world called him a writer and he forced a smile. He knew he was merely a servant of the white page.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
