He only took a small peek, but it was enough, she caught him and she shattered in sobs the secret that has been smoldering his whole life on the edge between fantasy and reality. And there she is, majestic, perfect, piercing, heinous in the swamp of shame, so much power within so much fragility mocking the fragility within so much power, the mistress of a life devoid of will and dignity in which the dawn of hope and the whirl of despair become one under the gaze that understands everything and nothing: Get over here, you powerless worm.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
