The green eyes of the border policeman looked familiar to her. She would have known if it was him if he hadn't had the mask. The embarkation began. Those green eyes stared at her from behind the post-control window. If I were to desecrate with my hand, your holy hand / I will atone with my lips, he had written in high school in her math notebook and she broke the sheet and shouted that she wasn't his Juliet. She quickly scribbled on a magazine and put on the window the answer that was two decades late: Two timid pilgrims rushed in / With a kiss my guilt to wash away, his green eyes read.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2022, the group has 7,950 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
