They had each other, but they were left with nothing when they suddenly threw their fate lottery tickets to the gods. He shouted at them passionately, I want other mermaids because your shell hurts, and I don't feel like loving you on the translucent mother-of-pearl beach. And she would tell him, if you had a horse, come to the shore to see me, that you were moaning too much and you were getting lost in the old trot. The gods were having fun and made a pact, in the last act they cloned the two and turned them into heavy rains that in the world would give birth to either mud or heavenly manna.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2022, the group has 7,950 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
