Both at Obregia. He at section 16, she at 17. They met in the yard. She was smoking and reading. He approached shyly and almost whispered and asked her: Dude, can you give me one too? The girl handed him the pack of cigarettes, absent, without looking up from the book. What are you reading? The ecstasy of communication. Baudrillard. Her eyes were blue. Why are you here? Heroin. You? A little of that, a little of the other. At night, in the bathroom on the first floor, they had sex. That's when he confessed. He too was reading a book. Lion and sucker trainer. Maticiuc.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2022, the group has 7,950 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
