First her little brother died. He was debile anyway. Then her mother passed away. She was keeping this cold in her chest since autumn and she was coughing so bad, he felt like she'll spit her tripe out. In less than two weeks he had found her father fallen by the stable. The sheep were screaming in hunger and that made her realize that something bad will happen. He passed away too overnight. He left this world as he lived, in silence. Țâru, the gravedigger tried in vain to dig through the ice cold ground. Zoica is mourning them with icy tears lined up in the coffins in the good room. Listen, the wolves are howling.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2022, the group has 7,950 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
