Which is the eighth, dad? I have a homework to do and no idea what to write. I don't know a thing about miracles, son. I only know how to work the land. Go and ask your mother, maybe she knows. I went to my mother. She told me that I'm the last miracle of the world. And which is the first, mom? Ana, your sister. Then we called out the other seven sisters to dinner and we all gathered around a steaming polenta. After dinner, I sat down by the stove and wrote about how my mother gave birth to me next to a haystack on a Thursday.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2022, the group has 7,950 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
