I'm taking the bottle to my mouth. I don't brag about dripping into the glass and stirring flavours. The velvety wine tickles my throat and I don't stop when I choke. What I'm about to do takes courage. All I have on is a coat. I climb the bridge, then on the railing. It's dark. The pit beneath me is not visible, and that makes me nervous. I can just hear the water. I'm cold. My coat flaps in the breeze, revealing me. A driver stares. I wait. Last night, when I told him what I wanted to do, he laughed. I'm throwing myself. Now he'll laugh all his life.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2022, the group has 7,950 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
