I waited out of sight in the shadow of the walnut tree on Temple Street. I laid my eyes on the silhouette of their embrace on the pavement. He goes first, the kids are waiting at home, it's late, I'm still working. I suddenly drew near, stuck my hand in her hair then slammed her body to the ground. The other hand plugged his mouth. With two fingers I pulled out the little dagger. I stabbed it between the 5th and 6th ribs on the left, twisted it and waited for her to stop struggling. I got up and felt so light. The Temple door was flung open. The inside was bathed in light.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
