Mom looked at me with her critical eyes. I had stepped out of the traditional and stable family setting and confessed everything to her. Now I had learned that my father had once done the same. So I wasn't going to be any better than the chip of the old block. Like my brother, then. Mom, don't curse me with your words. Don't leave with that thought. In Heaven, they will ask you about everything. And don't cry, you're breaking my heart. Look, I'm crying too. Your judgment hurts. Give me your hand to kiss it. And your forehead, to my lips. Mom, forgive me. Please, Mom.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
