I'm an angel, Father, she said with wistful eyes, and he laughed. Lying is a sin, he replied, and love started to bud in him. When it fully blossomed, his heart had to harden. I'm an angel, he dreamed of her at night and she seemed so real. You're a devil, he answered. Exhausted, he asked for another parish, far away, but the devil-angel, like a needle stuck in his heart, hurt him further. He returned one pitch-black day and found her by the side of the road, pelted with stones. In her, no trace of the devil.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
