Cannot locate the target. It's too crowded. You have to take him out. No time to waste, there's no telling when he might go out in public again. He's alone now. Having a coffee. There's someone else heading his way. A woman. She's sitting down at his table. Kissing him. No matter. The moment she stands up, shoot. Should I kill him right in front of her? Yes. She seems familiar. Shoot. Where do I know her from? Shoot now. She's kissed him and bent down to get her purse. Then her world was gone. We'd been friends once. We pulled each other's hair when we were young, but we also ate cherry plums off the ground.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
