Today is my birthday. There have been several pages so far in the book of my life and each of them has its friends. There were the girls from middle school. I thought we were going to marry some brothers and have the houses built one attached to the other. There were a few friends in high school that I had forgotten about until they took me out of the pit of depression I had fallen into a few years ago. University brought the ex, whom I can no longer say he is my friend. Then my child writes me the most touching birthday card. A beautiful day and other white pages are promised.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
