His wife had been a servant to the rich, but she had left him and the bed had remained like that after her departure, unchanged since his youth. Never quit certainty for something else, except if it's for alcohol. He probably knew how to shorten his fate. But the night played the violin divinely, and as he passed through the dirty window, the sound inebriated the summer sky and the naive angels. How are you today? Have mercy, stop drinking, I begged him. Get out of here, you, girl, he replied wrathfully, threatening me with a bow, I've known you for a long time, but I've never been your friend.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
