I lay down on the grass, head resting on my arms. A few strands of grass sting my neck, a couple tickle my left year. Close by, I can hear crickets chirping. A tired mosquito hovers around me. The ground is warm. The smell of sweet tobacco, roses and life lingers in the air. Although I am still, and know that in fact a round, blue stone is guiding me to you. I look at the sky and wonder where you're hiding. Are you bathing in the Milky Way? Did you tumble into divine hay, somewhere in the Big Dipper? A star dances towards the ground. I can hear you counting.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2022, the group has 8,175 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
