When is the cake leady, mommy? In a minute, mommy just has to put the whipped cream on. And then we can eat cake? Not now, baby. We're waiting for daddy to come back from work., we tell him Happy Birthday and then we eat it, after supper. But I don't want suppel, I want only cake. Be patient. We'll take a little nap and when we wake up, daddy will be home. The child fell asleep thinking of cake. When daddy got home, mommy was sleeping like a log. The fridge door was wide open and two little fingers made their way through the layers of chocolate. Happy Birthday, daddy.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2022, the group has 8,175 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
