I have been waiting for this day the way one waits for Geezus. I had bought the chives, I had my spirits high. Such a day deserves special attention. I wore my black fishnet tights, sexymuthafucka, the two palms and a half long miniskirt and the black ankle boots with stiletto heels, as if I were on a catwalk. With the spade in my right hand, ready for battle, mornin' neighbor. Mornin' and his cigarette fell down from his mouth, like it happens to idiots in movies, the stubble catches fire, and he catches feelings, what a fantastic picture, everything is up in flames. Ehe, the burning vanity, he says. Savonarola, a trifle.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2022, the group has 8,175 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
