Yo - Grigorina, Tăgărâlă shouted at the gate, long before the dawn. What did Sile do? Did Safta kick you out of the house? What's wrong with you? Not even the rooster woke up. Do you know where Sfoiag is? We had to go with Bârță. He started painting. He sits in the barn for hours. If I call him, he'll lose hope. Maybe you can get him out of there. Yes Sfoiag, was that what we were talking about? Wait there, I am coming right now - just to finish my business here. Yes Sfoiag, do you see that you are good at it? Who is this, Satan? Be damned, Tăgărâlă. Don't you see that this is a self-portrait?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2022, the group has 8,175 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
