Darling, I want to play a prank on my fellow peasants. Perhaps they say that if I'm alone, no one knocks on my door and only the wind lifts my skirt. They don't know that I'm worse than Penelope; the way to my ankle is purgatory. I'll show them that beyond the wicker fence, luxury is wallowing. Run to Geta the seamstress and fetch my crinoline, bring Titi Citură, to turn him into a part-time count. Let him come in his carriage of wind-blown gold and take me to the ball at the Community Centre.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2022, the group has 8,350 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
