He lives a life of luxury while I got a sprained ankle from how many suitcases I've carried. I open the hotel door for some bread, and he opens the fridge and hops on his ball of dough that leads him to the bathroom. I've got no bathroom - I wash myself in the backwater and his gravy's flowing while he's taking a bath. I've got a filthy coat and he's filthy rich. But I have something that he doesn't, 'cause she chose me and not him. I forget about poverty when I'm in her arms, and he forgets about his unhappiness in the arms of other women. So tell me, who's richer?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2022, the group has 8,350 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
