Full of pancakes, we would climb up the apple tree to cool off. A perfectly tasteful Jonathan, attentively grown, as it was living in Grandpa's garden. Only three vigorous branches, rooting from the trunk, and each of us grandchildren had their own fortune. We counted and polished our treasures with our eyes, waiting for them to ripen. Grandpa, working in the yard, could hear us talking up above and sighed in a loud voice towards the oldest one: Anca, Anca, when does your mind ripen, girl? Machea, where do you get so much luxury and wealth from? When the time comes, you'll be old and sorry.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2022, the group has 8,350 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
