They wrote to each other since they were little, he was gone, she stayed, words flew like years, he learned about closeness, she, about distance. One day her parents dolled her up without asking her first and sent her away from home, and she cried all the way. For a while, she saw the layers of flowers and the stone path exactly as she had imagined them. Then she got scared and punched the man who came out on the doorstep of the dream house: leave me, I love another man, I will only marry him. And she didn't shut up even when she saw her stack of letters on the table. With him. Not with you. I do not know you.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2022, the group has 8,350 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
