The first time he spotted him was when he was sitting in the ditch that bordered the woods. He was full of dirt and scarred as if he became the symbol of all the pain and cries of loneliness. He was hidden and was sitting with his eyes wide opened, oh what shiny eyes full of hope he had that someone wouldn't throw a punch at him. Since that day, he offered him a shelter. He walked around the whole village to bring him food found on his way or stole from the yards of other people. The boy was waiting for him as soon as the sun rose and ate as if it was his mother who prepared the meal. This is the story of a boy and his dog.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2022, the group has 8,350 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
