When he was angry, streams of fire came out from his eyes, scorching everything he looked at, leaving behind only smoke and ash. They were afraid of him and avoided him, not understanding his need for balance. He had only one friend who accompanied him everywhere and together they enjoyed the stillness of the vast darkness in the land of twilight, where they loved to walk. He kicked a pumpkin once and everything lit up. The dog wagged his tail cheerfully. He caressed his three heads comically. I wonder if Perse packed that soup.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2022, the group has 8,350 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
