It's Friday night. I cry. God, and I had grown so tall. Balmy, dressed as a walnut. When I was born, they were happy. Their eyes shone, they boasted that I was beautiful, that they had never seen such a miracle. I was sure they would put me in the glass case, that I would be with them all my life. They had raised me, worked for me to be born, to grow up. Towards evening I heard the little one asking his mother when she would cut me off. How to cut me? Hey, I'm here, I hear you, I shouted. The criminals, tomorrow night, when they come from the Resurrection service, will devour me.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2022, the group has 8,350 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
