Pale, on his deathbed, Gelu is still breathing. The notary enters the room smelling of medicine. Is he aware? Yes. Do you have documents? The grieving wife smiled. Yes, we love each other. Ma'am, testamentary deeds. Oh, yes. Gelu opened her eyes. Do I sign? The notary read tactfully. A little more, let's check. A buzzing fly landed on the old man's forehead. He flinches. Do I sign? Wait, sir, you're in a hurry. I am dying. Have patience, sir, let me read everything. A snort hit the air. The pen hit the floor. The notary smiled. I finished. His wife was screaming. I'm done.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2022, the group has 8,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
