When the moon narrowed its pupil reaping the stars as if they were illusions lit in the darkness of a being, he appeared. He came down a wind gust, stopping in the locust tree of the last whispers. He asked for a glass of water and a slice of rye bread. With his stubble-smelling lips, he touched the body which was fermenting with pleasure under the kneading of the palms with traces of the sky. She slipped through his fingers, fluid like the purple twilight. From his alveoli, he breathed her out whole at the threshold of the house with 5 children and lavender at the windows. Mother, we were hungry and feeling nostalgic.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2022, the group has 8,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
