Come on, granny, take out the money, the young men told her as they entered the house out of nowhere. I don't have any money, poor me. Don't you have a pension? Yes, but it is small, look here, I received it today. Don't you have money put aside for when you die? I haven't, because I've prepared everything; the coffin and something to give the people around the village, as it is custom here. Well, why do you say you're rich, granny? Well, how can I not say it, look, the grandmother showed them the picture with her grandchildren. Of, life, would you like some beans to eat? And you go back to your houses, because this kind of life is not for you.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2022, the group has 8,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
