He is my BFF. We have known each other all our lives. I cannot imagine my life without him. I rememberhim a long time ago. He was chubby and sad and worn a lace dress. He was sulky that he could not play hide \'n' seek because he was not a fast runner and the kids would laugh at him. And then I remember him as a bored teenage girl with her face covered with acne and who would repeatedly babble quotes from Camus. I remember how once she wept quietly multiple nights in a row because her monster-husband told her that he was no longer in love with her. I would not be me without my monster under the bed, that capricious monster with a smile like that of a princess.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2022, the group has 8,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
